Durandir comes from Durandal, known in the Spanish tradition as Durandarte: the legendary sword of Roland, the Carolingian paladin who fell at Roncevaux. Its name is usually translated as “the unbreakable” or “the enduring”, which is what we want our software to be. The legend also runs through our home city: in The Song of Roland, Saragossa (Zaragoza), headquarters of Durandir Technologies, is the last city in Spain holding out against Charlemagne.
The logo
The symbol is one interpretation of the pommel of Durandal. It also stands for the Archangel Gabriel, who is said to have given the sword to Charlemagne so he could pass it on to his finest knight. Read upside down, it is a “D”, the first letter of Durandir. Symbol and wordmark together form the Durandir imagotype.
